Sharna Burgess is returning to the ballroom. The Dancing With the Stars veteran pro will be coming back to compete as a pro in Season 35, making it her first complete season on the hit dance competition since 2021.
Burgess announced her comeback by appearing on Good Morning America on 24 August, where she informed her fans that she was “prepared to go back out there and give it another shot” at the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.
She then went on to comment that “It’s kind of like coming home” when asked about returning to the show after 5 years away. The announcement was further celebrated on the program’s official social media, which congratulated Burgess on returning to the program as a pro dancer.
Her return will result in Season 35 being her 15th season competing as a DWTS pro.
Burgess appeared on the show for the most recent time during Season 30 in 2021 with actor Brian Austin Green (who is now engaged to her). This is Burgess’ third time appearing on the show; she first joined the troupe in 2011 before becoming a professional in 2013.
During the years, she was always one of the most recognizable professional dancers on the show. The biggest moment of her DWTS career was in Season 27 when she finally took home her first Mirrorball Trophy with radio personality Bobby Bones.
Following Season 30, Burgess left the US series of the show during a significant time of change in her personal life. She had her son Zane with Green in 2022 and concentrated on her first few years of motherhood and other career prospects away from the ballroom.
Though she never again competed as a pro, Burgess remained parts of the franchise and, although not competing on the show, appeared at its 2024 500 th episode. She still is a judge for Dancing With the Stars Australia.
It is interesting to note that Burgess had previously disclosed that there had been conversations about a possible return to DWTS.
In early August, she mentioned that producers had once considered having her return, though she did not feel prepared at the time due to family priorities and concurrent projects.
Having established to viewers that she missed dancing she was willing to come back if the time was right and now it is right she has come back again, Season 35 sees her return after five years away.
Burgess is following in the footsteps of an expanding group of professionals and celebrities taking to the dance floor for the upcoming season.
Rumer Willis, Marcus Butler and Pasha Kovalev are among the celebrity contestants already confirmed for the show, with Witney Carson announced as Rodriguez’ professional partner.
The entire celebrity/pro pairings will be announced at the beginning of September. The America Dancing With the Stars, season35 will premiere over two nights onSeptember15 and 16, airing onABCand live onDisney+, while episodes will be available to stream onHuluthe next day.
